The popular heirloom Amposta onion, also known as Morada de Amposta or Bronze D'Amposta, is an intermediate-day variety named after the small Spanish town of Amposta. These onions produce medium-large, globe-shaped bulbs with a vibrant reddish-purple colour and distinctive red and white rings. Renowned for their mildly sweet flavour, they are ideal for raw consumption in sandwiches and salads. As an intermediate-day variety, Amposta onions flourish with an average daylight duration of approximately 12–14 hours, initiating the bulb formation process.

Widely favoured vegetable since ancient times originally from central Asia. Contains vitamin C, iron, sulphur and fibre. Good winter crop in full sun in rich well drained soil. Harvest after tops dry off and fall over, hang in a cool dry place. Plant different varieties for continuous use. Few people grow enough onions. Don't over-fertilise or waterlog. Shade seeds until well germinated. Sow in autumn/winter.
