Old-fashioned cottage garden plant bearing lovely clusters of violet, pink and white flowers that are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. The fragrant flowers smell like spicy clove and are most fragrant in the evenings. The flowers, young leaves, tender portions of stems and immature seed pods are all edible. The older leaves are not edible. They taste similar to cress and makes an attractive cut flower. Hardy and will tolerate light shade. Cut flower spikes once the flowers fade to encourage repeat blooming.
