Garlic

Monaro Purple (Italian) Seeds

Monaro Purple is a hardneck Turban garlic with roots tracing back to Yugoslavian workers in the Snowy Mountains nearly a century ago. It produces medium-sized, flattened bulbs with striking purple-striped skins that cure to a soft mauve. Inside, 10ā€“11 large cloves sit in a single layer, boasting a hot, punchy flavour when raw that mellows to a rich, nutty taste when roasted. Well-suited to cold winters and short growing seasons, it matures quickly and requires timely harvesting to prevent split skins. A weakly bolting variety, it forms slender, coiled scapes with small umbels containing up to 50 pink and red bulbils, adding to its unique character.

Allium sativum

Native to central Asia and used for thousands of years, Garlic is a flavourful and versatile food that offers a range of health benefits and is widely used in cooking and traditional medicine. It also contains compounds such as allicin which has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Organic garlic is considered a healthier and more sustainable option compared to conventional garlic, as it is free from harmful chemicals and grown in a way that supports soil health and biodiversity. Many people prefer the taste of organic garlic as it has a stronger and more flavourful taste.
