The Golden of Parma, also known as the Yellow of Parma or Dorata di Parma, is a prized, rare heirloom long-day onion variety originating from Italy. This rounded, golden-skinned beauty boasts a firm texture and rich, sweet flavour that deepens when cooked, making it ideal for soups, sauces, and roasted dishes. Revered by gardeners for its excellent storage capacity, this variety can last well into the winter months.

General information:

Onion

Allium cepa

Widely favoured vegetable since ancient times originally from central Asia. Contains vitamin C, iron, sulphur and fibre. Good winter crop in full sun in rich well drained soil. Harvest after tops dry off and fall over, hang in a cool dry place. Plant different varieties for continuous use. Few people grow enough onions. Don't over-fertilise or waterlog. Shade seeds until well germinated. Sow in autumn/winter.
