Althaea officinalis, commonly known as Marshmallow, is a graceful perennial herb with soft, velvety leaves and delicate pale pink to white blooms. Growing to around 1–1.5 metres tall, it’s a versatile plant often found in cottage gardens or herbal medicine plots. Preferring moist, well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade, Marshmallow is both ornamental and functional, historically valued for its soothing properties and pollinator-friendly flowers. Edible young leaves, flowers, seed pods and roots. Sow in spring.
