Japanese Turnip (Tokyo Market) Seeds

(Brassica rapa var. rapifera)

A hardy and easy to grow vegetable with tender, smooth, pearly white skin and mild juicy white flesh. It has a flattened globe shape 7-10cm across. Young leaves are mildly mustard and are a nutritious addition to stir fries or good steamed. Roots are excellent as a baby vegetable, can be used raw, steamed, stir fried, roasted or pickled. Eaten raw, they're more mild than most radish. Does well in most climates. 30-40 days.

Originally from Russia and enjoyed by ancient Greeks and Romans. Tops used in salads or cooked, excellent vitamin A and C and calcium. Roots are most tender when young, leaves in stir fries. Likes soil high in organic matter well drained and friable. Sow early spring to late autumn.
